So I actually do have some insight on what happened. He was being extremely slow and cautious to enter into anything new. His last relationship ended two years prior in utter heartbreak, so he was perfectly happy being single and spent nearly all his free time with his young daughter. He wasn't sure that he was ready to enter into anything yet when I met him. But yes, what you are saying would be another explanation for sure!
