forgotten (poem)

I had forgotten about you.
Been caught up in other things.
Dandelions and dragons,
bottle caps, and broken wings.

You live in the core of me,
and I’d extract you if I could.
I’d bury you in a cold, dark night
and be done — for good.

But something stupid today
reminded me of you.
That forgotten flutter in my chest
A long-lost feeling… intumesced!
But I know.
Every little cup anew
Is another sweetly poisoned brew
