A Simple Way to Capture a Powerful Moment
He had no idea
It was a typical call… two friends chatting, or rather, one listening and the other expressing frustrations about a community we are part of. I could tell he was feeling burned out, unappreciated, and perhaps, taken for granted.
During the call, I expressed how impactful he was to the community. I could tell he needed to hear some kind words and I did not hold back in sharing what I thought about how valuable he was in creating a community that had quickly become a home for so many people during a difficult time.
I pointed out a few things he wasn’t aware of, and had not considered. He wasn’t able to see how valuable and powerful he was because he was the person creating an amazing community for everyone else — he wasn’t the one receiving the benefits of all his hard work.
He needed to hear that he mattered more than he realized. And his work and courage to step up in a time of need hadn’t gone unnoticed.
